This is one of the best McDonald's in Ottawa and certainly the best fast food place downtown! They're always committed to cleaning the store, serving fresh food, and providing the customers with total satisfaction! I have visited several times and every time has been a great delight to eat there.
Outstanding! This location is great! The food is always fresh and the staff are always fast!
I can't seem to find the owner's name to tell him how horribly arrogant his employees are... I may have or may not have been about to buy something, staring at the fire extinguisher the employee who remained unnamed, told me to leave because I wasn't getting free coffee, after I had gotten in line asked for some and was told the promotion had ended. Now, I immediately became extremely annoyed at her presumptuousness and had to confront her unpleasantly defending myself and the fact that she unless was psychic could not have known whether I would buy anything or not, I did have money in my pocket, yet she claimed in her strange imagination I was
Every Saturday morning I go to the Rideau Street McDonald's for coffee and read the newspaper.
I am a government employee who does voluntee work at the Shepherds of Good Hope every Saturday.
Last Saturday, 8th of October, I asked for a re-fill of my senior's coffee, I am a senior by the way. I was refused because one of the employees said I had been there too long, this was at approx. 06:50 hrs. The outgoing Supervisor and the Incoming Supervisor both refused. I my defence, I said I had only been there 15 minutes.
I did not like their attitude at all, this Restaurent is located right downtown where there is a large population of homeless people who tend to hang around there a lot. I am not a street person looking for a freebee, I am a senior volunteer whos just wants to have a coffee and 1 refil only which is your own policy. I can well afford my coffee and do not have to cheat to get an extra coffee, verif poor attitude of supervisors. If they cannot provide good customer service they are in the wrong business.
I do not expect a response from you only to vent my dissatisfactin in your Restaurent that I will not enter again.

Every morning it's the same story. The (kids) I call them kids because they act like kids. They need courses on how to behave when working with the public. They argue among themselves in front of the customers. This is every morning. I use to go to Tim Hortons each morning just next door but I changed because you have a better variety in the breakfasts department and the price is better to. But if they don't change their way of serving customers, I'm going back to Tim. I'm wondering if I'm the only one with these comments. This morning there was water on the floor where the customers stand to order. I told the guy at the cash and he replied yes we know it comes from the drink machine. All I wanted is for someone to wipe the floor but he kepted on serving the customers and we (customers) were shaking their heads. Could you please help these kids even the managers seems to have difficulties with organizing their work for the morning rush and also one more cash would be very appreciated. This is the first time I email anyone to complain I'm sorry but it's really getting out of hand. The store was just renovated and it looks good, very bright. Now what the store needs is for the workers to grow up and do their jobs without all that drama in the morning.
I'm sorry again for complaining it's not in my nature but the store needs help especially concidering the location. Rideau street is not the best place.
Whoever wrote the positive reviews is either an employee or a friend of one. The young and errogant employees at this location make eating there an absolute nightmare. There isnt a manager in that place with respect or decency i dont care how "fresh" the food is! The service at this location is HORRIBLE...whoever owns this location should be extremely ASHAMED.
this mcdonalds is horrible, poor food in terms of cooking and service...sandwiches barely held together, dripping in sauce, let alone barely properly cooked---and really at mcdonalds the machine tells you how to do your job, kids.
if you ate there, you are drunk, busily unaware of your habits or looking for something.
the worst though is the management using street kids though. you gotta wonder about that. private security on pay plus street kid enforcers. this mcdonalds tells you the world corporations have for us in the future

Man, I knew MacDonalds was near the bottom of the food chain when it came to fast food restaurants, but what I saw tonight really was an all time low! I'm eating my food and you've got the usual riff raff just hanging around doing nothing and loitering. Then you see two teenage girls wrestling and yelling in a corner. A couple minutes later some teenager goes from the back of the restaurant and out the front, riding his bike and smoking a cigarette. But the real shocker was about ten minutes later when I noticed some guy around twenty exchanging a small bag of something for cash. They were doing this trying to not be observed, but they were too easy to see. After finished eating I asked to speak to the manager, and asked if they had any security there, and of course mentioned what I observed. She said they don't have security in the restaurant any longer as just their presence created more trouble than it was worth.
SO, IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR DRUGS, GO TO A MACDONALDS!
Went in at about 3pm, there was only one poor girl working.. Their manager was just wandering slowly to the front cashes, when I asked for the store number to make a complaint. He said he would open another cash.. Clearly I was already ticked off with waiting for 10 mins already.. Very poor customer service!!!!
The morning service is terrible & slow. The staff seem to not care and are there to have fun. I do not expect super fast service any where but after over 5 minutes the line of 5 moved 1 spot. And the line behind me kept growing. The ONE repeat ONE meal that did come out of the kitchen was wrong and had to go back. I walked out to Tim Hortons next door that had a line up of 15 people and was served in less than 5 minutes.
The only positive thing I can say about McDonalds AM serivce is that they got rid of the compaining staff that they had over a year ago.
I make the mistake of going into this McDonalds every few month. I have to stop going there and wasting my time.
UPDATE from Sept. 13, 2013 posting:
When I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager (I assume the day manager); he apologized for the poor service after I told him what happened. Then he offered me a free meal (I did not ask for it) as long as came within a week and took my contact information. Today Sept. 16, 2013, I went to the store just after 3pm. After waiting in a long but fast moving line I asked for the manager. When she came out; I mentioned what happened and what was said to me by the other manager. She checked her office & she could not find any proof of me calling. I guess I will call tomorrow AM.
**As for the good rating from my last post. It must have been a system issue. I clicked 'Poor'.**
UPDATE from September 16, 2013 posting:I went back in yesterday and spoke to the manager and got my free meal. The service was very good and staff were professional. The day and evening staff are a lot better than the staff I see between 6am - 7am.
I will never go back in the early morning to this location.
The staff are there goofing off, while people wait to be served...Then its the bumb problem, they hang out there, begging for change or food...while you try to relax and eat...Why there allowed too be in there is beyond me...
its an ok place.. its a Mcdonalds.. they have young kids as employees..dont expect the BUckingham palace staff in here for great service
also..the teens, homeless and drug dealers.. its hard to control them because of laws preventing you to kick someones ass if they misbehave..
you dont like it...go to the highlander just at the corner..its a real restaurant with good beer and a great staff.
